Arutprakasa Vallalar Chidambaram Ramalingam was born in the year 1823 in Marudhur, a village near Chidhambaram. He is commonly called as Vallalar. He preached everyone to worship the flame of a lighted lamp as a symbol of Lord Shiva. He also proclaimed the importance of Annadhanam [ Food Donation ] as a form of good deed.
He has written the most famous "Thiruvarupa". It consists of many songs praising the God. His main preaching is based on Jeeva-karunyam ( Show mercy to fellow living beings). He was strongly against killing animals for food or as a sacrifice in the name of God.
He is the founder of Suddha Sanmarga Sangam. As per Suddha Sanmarga, human life should be connected by love and, filled with charity and divine service.
Vallalar's famous saying is Arutperunychothi Thanipperunkarunai (Divine Light is Supreme, Unique Mercy is Supreme).
God's Appearance in Mirror :
Vallalar lived in a room in his brother's house in Chennai. He used to perform meditation by lighting a lamp in front of a mirror. One fine day, while meditating, God gave his dharsan in the mirror and blessed him.
Small boy speaks 7 Languages :
A person named Pinnagamani, was conceited and egoistic for the reason that he knew eight languages. One day, he visited Vallalar for his blessings.
Upon knowing Pinnagamani’s conceited pride, using his super-powers, Vallalar wanted to teach him a lesson. Vallalar made a small boy speak seven languages with his divine power. After witnessing his divine power, Pinnagamani became humble by letting go of his ego.
Power Of "Vallalar's" Name :
On the lakeside of Kurinjipadi, a devotee of Vallalar had once come to perform his morning ablutions. While at it, a snake came to attack him. On seeing the snake, he said, "In the holy-name of Ramalinga, I order you to leave". Snake left the place silently without harming him.
Lamp fuelled with Water :
Instead of fuelling with oil to light the lamp, Mrs. Muthiyalamai fuelled it with water unknowingly. However, Vallalar lit the lamp with water the whole night with his super natural powers.
Miracle in Dharmasthala :
One day, in Dharmasthala (Place where food is served ) there was food that could feed only 10 people. But unexpectedly, 100 people arrived at Dharmathala. Using his divine powers, Vallalar served the available food to 100 people and yet some more food was leftover that could feed 10 more people. Vallalar turned the vessel into Akshaya-Patra [ A Divine Vessel that keeps producing] .
Vallalar becomes the one with the "Divine Light" :
On 30.01.1874, Vallalar declared by saying, "I am in this physical body now. From now onwards I will enter everybody after becoming Divine light" and entered a room asking it to be locked. Vallalar’s physical body transformed into a Divine light.
